Typical Fossil's found in ancient oceans. These fossils are known as Trilobites. Trilobites are animal like mollusks that lived in the ocean, had a hard shell. 1. List the first 3 time periods in which dinosaurs lived from youngest to oldest.
Triassic,Jurassic,cretaceous.
2. What information is missing from the fossil record?
It is missing fossils.
3. Give a possible explanation for why dinosaurs grew in size over time.
Because they continents were moving apart and more food was around they think it made them bigger.
4. What characteristics would you expect to find in a mammal like reptile that would
enhance its chances of survival over a plain reptile?
it might have warm blood instead of cold
5. Why do you think this would be considered a transitional species?
Because it is a mixture of reptile and mammal
1.Explain why the modern whales ancestor moved from land to water and provide evidence to support your explanation. Because of a survival crisis climate change whipped out food supply.
2.Describe the physical changes that took place over time that made the modern whale a water dweller and Explain how these changes would be considered adaptations to the new environment. Found dead fish on shore and began to go into the water for more fish.
3. Compare the challenges that faced the modern whale as it evolved over time.
Body is good for hunting in bays. Body shape struggled when had to move to deeper water because it struggled to dive.
4. Describe how the whale survived over time when confronted by predators.
They traveled away from the equater to colder water because they have warm blood. There predators cant go there because they have cold blood.

1.) Triassic, Jurassic, cretaceous.
2.) Its missing fossils.
3.) They were starting to evolve in size and more food was accessible.
4.) It could be warm or cold blooded.
5.) It can adapt to the new environment.
EXTENDED RESPONSE.
1.) The climate changed their food supply.
2.) They began to find dead fish washed up on shore and went into the water to search for them.
3.) It is too big and had to go in deeper water
4.) They traveled away from the equator and the predators couldn’t go there because they have cold blood.

Analysis Questions: (5 points)
1. List the first 3 time periods in which dinosaurs lived from youngest to oldest.
250 million years ago-200million years ago-145 million years ago
2. What information is missing from the fossil record?
What did the animals eat. Were they plant eaters or meat eaters.
3. Give a possible explanation for why dinosaurs grew in size over time.
A meteor hit and killed most of them died so they had more room to grow
4. What characteristics would you expect to find in a mammal like reptile that would enhance its chances of survival over a plain reptile?
size of the reptile.
5. Why do you think this would be considered a transitional species?
It could change its self to get used to the eviorment.
Extended Response Question (16 points)
After watching both videos on whale evolution, respond to the following question.
1.Explain why the modern whales ancestor moved from land to water and provide evidence to support your explanation.
They moved because they had a food crisis.
2.Describe the physical changes that took place over time that made the modern whale a water dweller and Explain how these changes would be considered adaptations to the new environment.
They began to grow more and couldn’t walk anymore and got fish lungs. They also could not have found anymore food on land when they got out of water so they just stayed in the water.
3. Compare the challenges that faced the modern whale as it evolved over time.
The old body shape could get in and out of water to hunt. The bad part is that they were so big that they could not jump right into water. So they could get stuck on shore.
4. Describe how the whale survived over time when confronted by predators
The whales had moved to colder waters or farther away from the equator. They would not have any problems in colder waters because they are cold blooded
Part ONE
1)Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous
2)In the middle of the Jurassic, there is a gap of missing fossils.
3)The dinosaurs grew in size over time because they were evolving.
4)The mammal like reptile still has reptile strong body parts.
5)Because the reptiles evolve over time.
Part 2:
1)The modern whale evolved to water because it's ancestors needed a source of food and they tried going into the water to find a source of food.
2)At first, the whale was a land dweller. Then, they disappereard and a new form of it was created that had a land animals body but a water dwellers legs.
3) Challenges:
Shortage of Food
Short Legs.
Can't Drink Salt Water
4)The whale survived from predators by using its large mouth and it had short legs so it could lung at it's prey

1. Three time periods are 250 million years ago, 200 million years ago and 145 million years ago.
2. In the middle of the jurrasic there is a gap of missing fossils.
3. Continents drifted apart.
4. The mammal has reptile like body parts.
5. They are spread out over different areas and continents.
extended response
1. It was a survival crisis. There was a major climate change and cleared out the food supply.
2. It found dead fish. The whale went back into the water to find new fish.
3. The whale had hard times diving to catch other fish because of its body shape, but this body shape was good for hunting in bays.
4. The whale’s traveled away from the equator to be in colder waters and they will be able to survive because they are warm-blooded. Their predators could not go there because they could go in cold waters because they have cold blood.
Triassic,Jurassic,Cretaceous. The growth that made them so big. The plant life could've greatly expanded. Its ability to adapt better to the environment and it had mammal and reptile features and advantages. It can adapt better.
The whales were running out of food on land so they went to the water, they started as scavengers. They grew fish parts, They could swim in the water and hunt easier which also made it easier to escape predators. Some challenges it faced were predators and adapting to the new environment. The whales moved to colder climates where their predators couldnt follow.

1. turrassic, jurrassic, cretaceous.
2. it is missing fossils from it.
3. since all of the continents were moving there was more food available so the got a little bit bigger.
4. they could either be warm blooded or cold blooded
5. they are a mixture of reptile and mammal.
6. the climate changed and wiped out the food chain.
7. they found some dead fish on the shore so they went into the ocean to find more fish.
8. body shape struggled when tey had to dive for fish.
9. their predators cant go there because they are cold blooded.
1. The 3 periods are triassic, jurassic, and cretaceous.
2. A lack of fossils are missing.
3. A growth of the food that dinosaurs eat.
4. The fur could keep it warm

1. The 3 first time periods were Triassic,Jurassic,Cretaceous.
2.There is a period were there are missing fossels.
3.A meteor hit the earth leaving survivors and caused the contenets to spred apart and form a huge amount of plant life and provided the animals with more food.
4.It might be warmed blooded.
5.There is a large mix of reptiles and mamals.
1.The Whale moved from land to water because it had very little food on land. The water was full of fish and many other animals.
2.The changes over time that the whale had were it began to grow fins and important water animal stuff. The whale adapted by growing into a big fish.
3.Challanges the whale faced were it had to move to colder and deeper waters because of the monster sharks and it became difficolt for them to hunt.
4.They traveled to the poles because they are warm blooded and the monster sharks can't follow them there because they are cold blooded.
1. The climate was getting very hot and the land whales were running low of food sources, so they had to go to the water to find food.
2. The whale got longer and it evolved into more of a sea type animal. They adapted to their environment staying in their usual climate.
3. Some of the challenges the whale had to face was there was a shortage of food, they had short legs and they couldn't drink salt water.
4.They traveled away from the equator to colder water because they have warm blood. There predators cant go there because they have cold blood.

.Explain why the modern whales ancestor moved from land to water and provide evidence to support your explanation. They needed to find more food. the whales have some bones that land animals would have.
2.Describe the physical changes that took place over time that made the modern whale a water dweller and Explain how these changes would be considered adaptations to the new environment.
They old whles grew fins and were able to move through the water better. all of their food is in thw water.
3. Compare the challenges that faced the modern whale as it evolved over time. It had to avoid predators as it was changing and get used to the the change.
4. Describe how the whale survived over time when confronted by predators. The only predator it really had was the shark which is cold blooded so the whales just swam to cold water areas so the sharks couldnt follow.
