The Cheetah Problem!

This Chart shows the predicted decline in cheetah population throughout the world. Currently, there are roughly 10,000 cheetahs in Africa and Asia.  The likely extinction of the viable cheetah population is sometime around 2015-2025.  Viability is the key word. A population becomes genetically non viable when the population drops to below 12,000.   It would seem likely that the species will survive but only in limited surroundings, provided captive breeding goes well. The problem of the endangered cheetah is quite complex but the underlying problem is really about human population growth and expansion.

1. One of the issues is loss of habitat. Another reason why the cheetah is endangered is because of commercial farming. The last issue is because of development.
2. The cheetah and the wolf are similar in nature because they both came near extinction and they threatening farms and humans.
3. The Ice Age affected the cheetah population because the cheetah had its origins in North America and Texas. The Ice Age hit them exactly 10,000 years ago.
4. From the cheetahs in the Ice Age to the cheetahs present day, the population has dwindled down by a big number from inbreeding by the surviving ones and related ones.
5. Their leopard coated spots make them dangerous and their long and fast legs.
6. The factor that will throw them off is humans.
7. Killing them, humans living in their habitat and hunting them.
8. Bringing in new ones from Asia.
9. The cheetahs aren't breeding that fast and quick.

1) One of the issues is that Cheetah's face is loss of habitat. Another issue is poaching. The last issue is habitat destruction.

2) The Cheetah and Wolf are similar because they are hazards to humans and animals.

3) The Ice Age affected the Cheetah's because it had origins in North America. This hit them about 10,000 years ago.

4) The climate has caused the Cheetah's population to go down.

5) The Leopard spots on the Cheetahs help them blend into their surroundings.

6) The factor that could kill of cheetahs is man. We poach them killing off many cheetahs.

7)We poach them, destroy their habitat, and have a competition between farmers.

8)We could bring more Cheetahs from asia.

9)The Cheetahs do not breed as fast as other animals.

1. Loss of habitat, commercial farming, and devlopment are the 3 main contributors to the close extinction of the cheetah.
2. The cheetah and the wolf both are near extinction which makes the same. Also, farmers would hunt them because they invaded there land and ate some of their crops.
3. The ice age almsot completely wiped out the cheetahs. The cheetahs managed to stay alive by breeding with close types of animals.
4. Because the cheetah breeded with closely related animals during the ice age, it messed with their genetic system, but made them turn out to be more alike than identical twins.
5. The cheetahs body type, shape, and where things are placed made them what they are. They have very long and muscular legs which give them their speed, a spotted coat and striped nose to blend them in with their habitat, and an organ system that is perfectly fit for the way they hunt. Fast and swift.
6. Humans are their single largest threat. Even though they are protected, people still hunt them. Farmers kill cheetahs the most because they invade their land.
7. Killing them, expanding and taking over their habitat, and hunting them for food and fur.
8. They are communicating with the places that have cheetahs and trying to make people stop killing them, and help them. They are also bringing in the few cheetahs from Asia to try and raise the population to put to the mark where they can expand again.
9. The human population keeps growing and taking over the cheet
ahs habitat which is forcing more and more cheetahs to captivity andf eventually there will be too many and there will be no place for them to go.

1.The reasons are loss of habitat, commercial farming and devolement.
2. The cheetah and wolf are similar because they were both in danger at one time and they both are very good hunters.
3. The cheetah was affected by the ice age because they were in North America at the time when the Ice age hit.
4. Since there was the ice age it killed alot of Cheetahs so they had to start inbreeding so they could keep their population going.
5. Their physical features help them to be great predators because long legs make them go faster, their lungs are bigger so they can have more stamina and they have great camoflauge so they are not seen while hunting.
6. One factor that could kill off that Cheetah quickly is that if the farmers will keep killing more and more teachers.
7. One way is that they have killed cheetahs t protect their livestock. Another way is that they have destroyed their enviroment. The final reason is that they have poached Cheetahs for clothes and purses.
8. They have made people aware of the population of cheetahs and dealed with farmers so they would not kill Cheetahs.
9. They won't work because cheetahs won't breed n captivity.

1. List the 3 main issues that endanger the cheetah population.
a. The long term survival of the cheetah depends upon the reconciliation of habitat destruction and poaching with the cheetah.
b. Loss of habitat
c. Commercial farming and development.
2. How are the cheetah and wolf similar in nature?
Because the wolf was almost extinct so they breaded them.
3. How did the ice age affect the cheetah population?
It took them away from their homes of origin.
4. How did this major climate event create a genetic “bottleneck” for the current cheetah population?
They left their homes and had to migrate.
5. Explain how the physical features of cheetahs make them exceptional predators.
Their tail gives them balance to make them run faster.
6. What factor could potentially kill off all the cheetahs very quickly?
If people keep taking their homes for farm land and kill them from hunting them.
7. Describe 3 ways humans have reduced the cheetah population.
a.they hunt them.
b.took their houses.
c.they took their food.
8. What conservation efforts by the CCF and CAT are underway to keep the cheetah population from becoming extinct?
Put them in captivity and breed them.
9. Why is captive breeding not working well with the cheetah population?
Because they are already so far gone that’s its hard to get all them back.

1. List the 3 main issues that endanger the cheetah population.
- Loss of habitat ;many lands that compose the cheetah's habitat range are being converted into farmlands and cattle ranches
- Commercial Farming
- Development

2. How are the cheetah and wolf similar in nature?
The way the cheetah is viewed by African farmers is the same way ranchers view Wolfs in North America. If the cheetah is continually hunted at its current rate it will be extinct in the next decade, The Wolfs were successfully eradicated from north America and the cheetah is fallowing down the same path.

3. How did the ice age affect the cheetah population?
It took the cheetahs away from their homes and their origin.

4. How did this major climate event create a genetic “bottleneck” for the current cheetah
population?
The cheetahs left their homes and had to migrate.

5. Explain how the physical features of cheetahs make them exceptional predators.
Their tail gives them balance in their legs to make them run faster.

6. What factor could potentially kill off all the cheetahs very quickly?
If people started hunting them they would die off very quickly because there is not very many cheetahs left.

7. Describe 3 ways humans have reduced the cheetah population.
- They kill them for fur and other resources
- They take away their habitats and homes to build farms.
- The humans took away their food resources.

8. What conservation efforts by the CCF and CAT are underway to keep the cheetah population from becoming extinct?
The CCF and CAT are breeding the cheetahs and making more and more o try and increase the population and are bringing in the cheetahs from Africa to conserve them.

9. Why is captive breeding not working well with the cheetah population?
The breeding isn’t working because once you breed a diseased cheetah it carries on that disease to all the babies and those babies give it to theirs so more than half the cheetah population carries a genetic disease.

1. Three resons the main issues that endanger the cheetah population are 1. Most of their habitat has been turned into farm land and cattle ranches. 2. Another reason is commercial farming. 3. The last one is development.

2. both the Cheetah and the wolf are becoming more and more less populated because we keep destroying their habitats to make farmland.

3. The ice age had effects on them because it had it's habitats in North America.

4. Their Population has contiued to decline.
5. Their spotted fur and their amazing speed.
6. The human race may end up killing off all the cheetahs and then extinkting them.
7. The humans kill them, we destroy their habitat for farm land, and to many huntersv killing them.
8. We could bring in more cheetahs from asia.
9. The Cheetahs don’t reproduce fast and they keep dying.

1.The 3 main issues that endangered the cheetah population are loss of habitat, commercial farming, and development.

2.A cheetah is viewed by a farmer in Africa just like a timber wolf is viewed by a rancher in North America.

3.As a result of the last ice age, most of the cheetah population in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa perished.

4.This major climate change left cheetahs with few to reproduce with so they are forced to inbreed with closely related animals.

5.Cheetahs have a rough coat with round black spots and unique stripes down its nose. A small head, high set eyes, and tiny ears mix with a slender, long legged body. The cheetah's flexible spine, oversized liver, enlarged heart, muscular body, non-retractable claws, and stabilizing tail make the cheetah the fastest hunter in Africa and the fastest land mammal. This helps a cheetah hunt because it is hard for its prey to out run a cheetah.

6.Humans are the biggest threat to cheetahs. Even though there is a law against hunting them we still hunt them and farmers kill them because they raid their land.

7.Three ways we have reduced the cheetah population are we have killed them for food and fur, we have destroyed their habitats, and we have eliminated the food supply.

8.The CCF and CAT are trying to keep the cheetah population from becoming extinct by breeding them and putting them in captivity.

9.Captive breeding is not working well because cheetahs are not breeding fast enough and because most of the cheetahs left carry a genetic disease so when they are breeding more and more they all pass on the disease to their offspring which is killing them.

1. one of the main reasons the cheetah is becoming endangered is because of bad development. another reason is because of the loss of habitat. lastly it is happening because of terrible commercial farming.
2. the wolf and the cheetah are similar because they threaten farms and humans, plus they both almost became extinct.
3. The Ice Age affected the Cheetah's because it had origins in North America. This hit them about 10,000 years ago.
4. The major climate event created a genetic “bottleneck” for the current cheetah population because it has led to all living cheetahs today are more closely related than twins.
5. The cheetah's leopard covered skin makes them appear dangerous and scary because they are very fast animals.
6. the main factor that would ever throw the cheetah's off is the humans. they play a big role in the food chain.
7. taking over their habitat, killing them, and lastly hunting them for fur and food.
8. they could increase the population by importing them from asia and stop hunting all of them down.
9. the cheetah's are not breeding very fast at all.

1. Humans hunt for cheetahs for clothing or accessories. Baby cubs’ fatalities are 92%, from other predators.

2. They are similar by living in the same environment. They don’t have many predators.

3. Cheetahs in North America, Europe, and most in Africa and Asia perished because of the ice age.

4. This major climate change affected them by decreasing the area of where the cheetah has its natural habitat.

5. They are exceptional predators because cheetahs are fast, by catching other animals easily.

6. A thing that may kill them off is hunting.

7. Humans hunt for these animals. The another human factor that served to reduce the cheetah population is competition with livestock farmers. Also is has a reduced habitat from the use of humans.

8. One conversation is breeding the cheetahs. CCF further provides medical assistance to ailing cheetah and nurses them until they are able to be reintroduced into the wild.

9. The male cheetah sperm is non-functional.

1a. 1main issue is that people/humans are killing the cheetah population to sell their fur.
1b. another main issue is because humans are tearing down the cheetah’s natural habitat. If they don’t have a habitat or a place to live then they wouldn’t have a place to sleep or hunt.
1c. another reason is that humans are making their habitat into cattle ranches and farm land.
2. the cheetah and the wolf are similar because they are both seen as predators to their cattle. They both kill and are endangered.
3. they cheetah’s origins were mostly in north America. It hit them about 10,000 years ago.
4. the cheetah population has gone down time to time from the ice age to now in 2011.
5. the spots on the cheetah is like a camouflage to a sniper.
6. the factor that will kill of the cheetahs will be us. We kill them and sell their fur for money.
7. the farmers play a game to see who can kill more of them. We have obliterated their habitat almost and we kill them for money.
8.we have been bringing cheetahs from around the eastern hemisphere.
9. the captive breeding does not work as well because they don’t produce nearly as fast as some other species.
