Core B, week 8

We have been learning about the human body and how it is organized and how certain structures perform certain functions within the body.  For this week's BLOG, I would like for you to pick one of the following organisms and explain why it is considered to have a symbiotic relationship with other organisms.  Respond to A and B for 10 points.

Use this link to investigate Bedbugs  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedbug

Use this link to investigate Tapeworms http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cestoda

Use this link to investigate Deer Ticks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deer_tick

A) The Problem: (5 points)
Why is this organism considered a parasite and what health related issues does this organism cause?

B) Description of organism: (5 points)

  • Describe the physical characteristics of the organism
  • its feeding habits/food source
  • how it reproduces
  • stages of development
  • Treatment for exterminating organism

B)The health risk are musle weakness, constipation, and sizurs.

(A)they are parasites because they have to feed on warm blood from humans or animals.they leave skin rashes and alergic reactions to the bites.
(B)tape worms are parasites because it goes into organisms and uses what it needs. the reaction can cause seizures, constipation and musal weakness

A) They are considered a parasite because they feed on human blood. This organism causes rashes, psychological effects and allergic reactions.
B)
Physical characters: Reddish brown, their life span depends on how often they feed, six legs.

Food Source: Feed on humans, Latches on to your skin with its feeding tube and with one tube sucks salvia and with the other tube sucks blood.

Reproduces: The male pierces the female bedbugs.

Life stages: Have six life stages, they shed their skins through their life stages. Bed bugs must go through all six life’s before they are an adult.

A) The bedbug is considered a parasite because it lives near or on humans/warm-blooded animals and get nutrients from them. Some health effects are that you could get skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms. This parasite sucks and drinks your blood.
B) Bedbugs are a brownish color and have microscopic hairs. Their shape is a flattened oval look with no wings. They can live in various levels of temperatures. The bedbug lives on blood from mostly humans by piercing into the skin. The male has to pierce the latter into the abdomen to the female and most of the eggs are fertile. There are six life stages of the bedbug and their skin is shed. Ways to get rid of bedbugs is to vacuum them up, heat treating, or wrapping the mattres in plastic.

A) 1. It is considered a parasite because they feed on human blood and live in your bed and make nests in your bed.
B) 1. Bedbugs are reddish brown, have 6 legs, and newborns are transparent.
2. Bedbugs feed off of warm blooded organism’s blood. They feed at night.
3. Bedbugs reproduce by traumatic insemination.
4. Bedbugs have 6 stages of life. They shed their skin throughout many stages of their lives.
5. You have to get rid of all your furniture and spray everything to get rid of them

A) This organism bed bug is considered a parasite because it is an insect of the family and they feed on human blood. The health related issues that the bed bugs have are skin rashes, psychological effects, and allergic symptoms.
B) The physical characteristics of bed bugs are flattened, oval, wingless, reddish brown and crawls on legs. Bed bugs feeding habits are they feed on humans but only what their prey is not available to them. They attract to warmth and certain chemicals. Bed bugs reproduce by the males pierces the female abdomen to reproduce. Stages development is they have six lives, also not labeled as adults unless they go through six stages. The treatment for exterminating organisms are pesticides and getting new mattresses if had the bug.

Bed Bugs
A) The organisms are considered a parasite because it does feed on human blood and are living organisms, they also get nutrients from humans and animals. They feed on warm blooded creatures, preferably humans. Some health related issues that come from the bedbug are skin rashes, psychological effects, and allergic reactions/symptoms.
B) Bedbugs are flat and brown. They have small hair follicles which make it bedbugs have the striped look on their flat back. Bedbugs do not have wings, and only have six legs. The bedbug is oval shaped. The bedbug feeds on warm blooded organisms and prefers human blood. The bedbug usually stays in humans beds, thus the name bedbugs, it is a nocturnal organism so it will surely go unnoticed for a while because it usually feeds on the host at night time where the host is mostly unaware. The bedbug reproduces the way many other common parasites do not. The female bedbug does not have a genital opening so the male bedbug pierces the females abdomen and fertilizes the female bedbug. This is called traumatic insemination. Bedbugs have six stages of life. five which are immature and one adult stage. The bedbug will shed their skins throughout molding into the stages. To exterminate the organism you will have to use pesticides to treat the infestations, also heat, an exterminator, spray down all fabric furniture with pesticides, and non-pesticides, and wrap up your mattress with plastic to suffocate the bedbugs.

B.) The physical characteristics of this organism are that they are tiny. Bed Bugs are brown, small creatures that are mostly active at night. They feed on human blood or warm blooded animals. Bed Bugs find a mate by traumatic insemination. The male feeds a female and the male pierces the female’s abdomen. Bed Bugs have six life stages. The six life stages are lived by five of the life’s being immature and one of them is an adult stage. After each life they shed their skin through a molting process. The treatment of exterminating Bed Bugs is DDT and organophosphates.

A) A deer tick is considered a parasite because it is a vector for several diseases of animals and humans. The health related issues the deer tick causes is Lyme diseases.
B) The physical characteristic of the deer tick is that it has a hard outer body shell. The deer tick females latch onto a host and drink its blood for four to five days. They eat blood from humans and animals. They reproduce by after it is engorged; the tick drops off and overwinters in the leaf litter of the forest floor. The following spring, the female lays several hundred to a few thousand eggs in clusters. Egg/Larva/Nymph/Adult. Co-infections complicate Lyme symptoms, especially diagnosis and treatment. It is possible for a tick to carry and transmit one of the co-infections and not Borrelia, making diagnosis difficult and often elusive. The CDC's emerging infectious diseases department did a study in rural New Jersey of 100 ticks and found that 55% of the ticks were infected with at least one of the pathogens.

Why is this organism considered a parasite and what health related issues does this organism cause?:
Because it can’t get their own energy it gets it from the blood of the deer. You can catch a desiese.

A. A bedbug is a parasite because they are blood sucking bugs and if you get bit by enough bedbugs they can cause a rash.
B1. A bedbug has a tiny head but a flat round back and can be easily over looked by its tiny form.
B2. A bedbug will feed every 2-3 days and will stick a tube like nose into a warm blooded animal and will suck blood and inject its saliva to barely numb the area so the bite doesn’t wake light sleepers.
B3.A bedbug has no opening for a male bedbug to fertilize the female so they stick their tube like abdomen into the female to fertilize the eggs in the female bug.
B4. A bed bug has six stages of life. It has five stages of prematuratity and one adult stage. 1. A Cimex lectularius . 2. A nymph. 3. Premature bedbug. 4. Adult. 5. Fertile adult.
B5. Bedbugs are very hard to get rid of really you can only get rid of them with many treatments of an exterminator.

B.4. They reproduce when the male peirces their hypodermic in the females abdomen.

B.5. Bedbugs have six life stages. First they shed their skin through a molting process in some of the stages then their outer shells are clear. They must do this six times before they become adults.

B.6. They are ressitsting a couple of pesticides called pyrethroid, DDT, and organophosphates.
